SDG #7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
Energy is central to nearly every major challenge and opportunity the world faces today. Be it for jobs, security, climate change, food production or increasing incomes, access to energy for all is essential. Working towards this goal is especially important as it interlinks with other Sustainable Development Goals. Focusing on universal access to energy, increased energy efficiency and the increased use of renewable energy through new economic and job opportunities is crucial to creating more sustainable and inclusive communities and resilience to environmental issues like climate change.
Curaçao hosts an abundance of natural wealth, including a unique diversity of species, ecosystems and landscapes. The island benefits from a variety of essential ecosystem services, including the provision of water, food, oxygen, energy, spaces for recreation and tourism, raw material for industrial development, the control of diseases, and the reduction of climate hazards.
However, Curaçao faces the same natural resource constraints, risks and challenges of many other small island developing states, including: biodiversity loss and ecosystem functioning; managing threats from chemicals and waste; unsustainable use of natural resources; climate change and its impacts.
